As was widely reported following the recent release of an article by Lancet there is currently considerable interest in the use of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) in treating recurrent depression. In sum, the study suggests that whilst MBCT doesn’t improve outcomes as compared to medicated anti-depressants the relapse rates are similar and both treatments are ‘associated with enduring positive outcomes in terms of relapse or recurrence’.
We are currently working as part of a consortium in undertaking a feasibility study – Remode - comparing two models of group based support aimed at combating recurrent depression; MBCT and Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), an approach delivering structured peer-led support and the development of a personal WRAP in order to address mental health issues.
